    • Go to the warm-up page, and write the title “Calentamiento.” 
      • Use the vocab and notes from yesterday to write down the ?s and answers:

    • April 12–17:  Feria de Abril (April Fair), Sevilla
    • April 23:  St. George's Day (special flower markets, Barcelona); Aragón/Castile and León Day (Aragón and Castile and León)
    • April 30–May 7:  Feria del Caballo (horse pageantry), Jerez
  • Feria de Abril
    • Officially, the Fair takes place at the end of April and starts at midnight on the Monday two weeks after Semana Santa with a spectacular firework display over the Guadadalquivir River and the ‘Alumbrao’ (turning on of the lights)!   There are tent structures are known as ‘casetas’ that started growing in numbers year after year until the 1920s when the Feria de Abril had grown into the city’s biggest annual fiesta. It’s located in the Parque de María Luisa in Barrio de los Remedios. This fairground is known as ‘Real de la Feria’, it is an enormous site that becomes a city in its own right for a week; last year had around 1,050 temporary ‘casetas’!!
    • Located right next to the ‘Real de la Feria’ in Calle del Infierno a huge fairground is set up with lots of the typical rides and attractions together with a circus show.
    • In Spanish, the first Monday night is known as ‘La Noche del Pescaíto’ -- ‘Little Fish Night’, since this is traditionally an evening where fish is eaten for dinner. After dinner people, head for the ‘Portada’ which is the beautiful structure at the entrance to the Feria where thousands of lights are switched on by the Mayor of Seville at midnight.
    • Tueday is the first official day of the festival when there are horseback parades through the fairground with the women wearing beautiful flamenco dresses and the men in their traditional suits known as ‘el traje corto’. The ladies wear colorful flamenco dresses which are known as ‘trajes de gitano’ or ‘gypsy suits’, and there’s lots of dancing and even a horseback parade: the “Paseo de Caballos”.

    • What’s an infinitive?
      • It’s a verb that ends with -AR, -ER, or -IR, and is unconjugated, which means it can be changed in INFINITE ways.
    • So, which verbs are FOLLOWED by an INFINITIVE, in English?
      • I love to _INF_. I want to _INF_. I have to _INF_.
      • I will/won’t _INF_ . I can/can’t _INF_. I know how to _INF_.

        • Please go over your rough draft one last time before you write your FINAL! (or keep working on your verb packet!)

        • THE PROMPTS, again:
          • 1. Your family - What are their names and ages?   What are does each one like, dislike?   What do they do? What are their jobs or hobbies?
            • Write about an activity you did with a family member last summer.
          • 2. Your favorite foods - What do you like to eat? 
            • What do you eat for breakfast? For lunch?  For dinner?
            • What foods do you like/dislike? Why?  What do you order from restaurants? 
          • 3. Hobbies/Past times - What do you outside of school
            • What do you like to do?  Who do you like to do these activities with?  Write about what you do (did) for fun WHEN (/last time there was) a rainy day or a snow day.  
          • 4. Storytelling -  Write a short story in Spanish.
            • Make sure your story includes characters, a setting, a problem, and a solution.  Include details about your story; you may write in the present, past, and/or future tense.
          • 5. Physical Descriptions & Personality Traits - 
            • Write about two to three people. Include at least three physical descriptions for each person.  Describe their personalities, likes and dislikes, things they like to do.  Add any information that you think is important to know about the people you’re describing.
      • HOW THIS IS GOING TO BE GRADED:
        • 50% - PREPARATION: did you do a rough draft of at least 5 sentences?
        • 40% - PERSISTENCE & EFFORT: On the day of the Final Draft, did you write at least 5 sentences in Spanish, with capitals, periods, and an attempt at something coherent?  
          • 30 % for having COMPLETE sentences in SPANISH, 
          • 10 % for just USING CAPITALS AND PUNCTUATION!!
        • 10% - PROGRESS!   Did you do this to the best of your ability?   Did you make the corrections from your rough draft?  Did you use the right ENDINGS?   Did you do use our vocab words?  :)

            • With your seat partner, choose a COLOR and choose whose BOARD to use.  
            • Then,  WRITE THE VERB, CORRECTLY CONJUGATED with the ending that matches the PRONOUN/PERSON in the spot you want to place your “chip”.
            • Four in a row that are CORRECTLY SPELLED (accents count!) wins!!  
            • If you finish early, use the OTHER partner's board to play again!

            • Stem changers are a new type of verb.  They are not regular or irregular
              • They DO follow the regular patterns of verb conjugation (ir/er/ar endings)
              • They ADD an extra step when conjugating
            • You have to memorize which verbs change stem and what type of change they have
          • Steps to conjugating stem changers:
            • STEP 1: Take off the ending
            • STEP 1 ½: Change the stem (second to last syllable)
            • STEP 2: Add the appropriate ending (o, es, e, etc.)
          • Kinds of stem changers:
            • e --> ie
            • o --> ue
            • e --> i
            • u --> ue
              • The ONLY TWO SUBJECTS for whom there is NO stem change are NOSOTROS and VOSOTROS!
            • If you need them, HERE ARE THE FILLED IN NOTES!!
