¡Hola hola, class! Happy Tuesday! Here is our presentation that we used in class today! (¡Usamos esta presentación hoy!)
- Calentamiento
- ¡Saquen ustedes su TAREA y un LÁPIZ, por favor!
- Please take out your old HOMEWORK (to turn in!) and a PENCIL!
- Then, write your name on the top of the Venn Diagram sheet that you picked up at the door.
- In the circle on the RIGHT, write what you know about Halloween!
- Overview of the Day of the Dead
- Notice: When is it celebrated?
- How is it celebrated?
- What are the main symbols?
- Do people dress up?
- Is it creepy/scary?
- ¡FIESTA!! - El Día de los Muertos!
- El día de los muertos is celebrated on November 1 and 2
- People don't wear costumes, because they're not trying to be scary
- Instead, the skulls are made of sugar -- they represent the sweetness of the memories of our dearly departed loved ones and ancestors
- May people go to the graves of their ancestors, bring candles and flowers (especially marigolds), and celebrate with the foods and drinks that their loved ones used to enjoy.
- It's much more a celebration and rememberance of the dead than something scary.
- And, despite the name, Día de los muertos is definitely NOT a party about or to celebrate death itself.
- Check out the links and the visual symbols of Día de los Muertos here!
- AND, to finish watching The Book of Life, the link is here!!
LA TAREA (written in your SAM) -- Please fill in the blank vocab sheet and DO PROOF YOU STUDIED for next time I see you -- 11/18/15, using the printed out vocab sheet!
